Police, Alderman, Churches, and Community to Come Together for Safety
"Prayer Vigil for Peace and to Stop the Violence in our Community.”
“The churches of Logan Square want this community to be a place of peace. We pray for the end of violence, especially violence that robs our children of their future.” Reverend Sandra Castillo, Co-Chair of the 14th District faith base sub-committee.
“High crime is all of our problem. We must ban together to support our Police department to reduce the crime rate.” Pastor John Thompson, Armitage Baptist Church, Co-Chair of the 14th District faith base sub-committee.
The community will join the churches in Logan Square in a "Prayer Vigil for Peace and to Stop the Violence in our Community.” The Chicago Police Department 14th District Police Commander, Lucio Martinez, is asking our neighborhood’s faith communities to address the issue of violence by coming together to pray for peace. The Prayer Vigil is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2009 for 6:30pm at the Logan Square Eagle Monument at Kedzie Avenue and Logan Boulevard.
We will have a brief program including Commander Martinez and Alderman Rey Colón. The Right Reverend Jeffrey D. Lee, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, will be our guest preacher.
