Congratulations and Welcome! Dill Pickle Food Co-op Opens Their Doors

After four and half years of hard work, the Dill Pickle Food Co-op, opened its doors  at 3039 W. Fullerton, in front of the Chicago Public Library - Logan Square Branch. On December 5th some 300 shoppers, looking  for affordable organic, locally sourced and artisan food items walked through the doors of this community-owned grocery store.
“The Dill Pickle will improve the quality of life in Logan Square by offering healthy, ecologically responsible goods at the mostaffordable prices possible,” says Board President Billy Burdett.  “We will constantly be working to find ways to bring costs down, so that access to organic and locally produced goods is less limited.   The Dill Pickle also aims to serve as a resource for education and other services to the community.  The co-op is a great place for people to meet their neighbors and connect with what's happening in the community.”
Logan Square resident Virginia Wyatt Wharton serves as coordinator of the Coop’s Latino Outreach Committee.  Virginia is a Spanish-speaking social worker who works with immigrant youth.  Virginia explains why she is committed to the Coop:  “At a time when many of us are concerned about gentrification, the Dill Pickle invites the entire neighborhood to take a part in its  ownership and sustainability.  It is my hope that one day the  membership will truly reflect the demographics of our community so that we can best assess and meet the needs of our community-- a goal expressed in our mission statement.”
The Dill Pickle is currently the only food co-op in Chicago, has over 550 members and growing daily. If you are interested in learning more or joining visit www.dillpicklefoodcoop.org.
