Letter to Chicago Tribune Editor from Nancy Aardema, Executive Director of LSNA

Chicago Tribune
Letter to the Editor

Members of the Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA) read with interest the article in the April 8th Metro talking about the need for more affordable housing in the Chicago Metropolitan area.  Our community is one that suffers a great deal from the pressures of rising costs of housing.

LSNA has several solutions that could provide decent housing opportunities.
• Create a mix of affordable housing at the Lathrop Homes Public Housing.  The residents of Lathrop have developed a well thought out plan that includes affordable homeownership, affordable rental and CHA units.  LSNA agrees that this would be the best use for this large development in the midst of a very gentrified area.
• Develop supportive housing at the corner of Kimball, Diversey and Milwaukee.  A recent proposal would create 47 units and supportive services.

We call on the mayor, department of planning, department of housing and CHA to accept these community based solutions to an area wide crisis.

Sincerely,
Nancy Aardema
Executive Director
