Preview of Draft Master Plan for Lathrop Homes released

On July 3, the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) and its development team for the Lathrop Homes showed parts of their Draft Master Plan for Lathrop to HUD officials, the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, community leaders and other "Consulting Parties." 

This consultation, part of the "Section 106" process, is required by law when federal funds may harm a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The plan calls for preserving most of the buildings north of Diversey, but demolishing almost all of the buildings south of Diversey.  It continues to include 45 percent market-rate development.

HUD recently released the July 3 presentation.  Pages 2 and 3 provide a summary of the types of units and the number & ratio of parking spaces by each type of unit.  The presentation does not show much of the proposed new construction in detail.  

A note on the numbers:  The table on page 2 of this presentation counts Lathrop's units in a way that is not consistent with previous unit counts throughout the planning process.  It includes the 92-unit Lathrop Senior Building, which none of the earlier unit counts have included.  Here is the breakdown without the senior building:

CHA to hold Public Meeting Tuesday, July 30, to present plan:  The CHA and its development team for the Lathrop Homes will hold a public meeting onTuesday, July 30, to present the draft Master Plan:  The meeting will be at New Life Community Church, 2958 N. Damen (at Wellington).  Doors will open at 6 pm, and a formal presentation of the proposed Master Plan will start at 6:30 pm.  According to the announcement, the public is invited "to stay afterward to share your additional ideas and suggestions with members of the LCP and CHA team as we make final adjustments to the plan."
