Senator Iris Martinez Celebrates with 3 New Graduates of Grow Your Own

In December, Chicago State University graduated three more participants of Project Nueva Generacion.  Ebelia Mucino, Danny Silva and Emma Vale received degrees in bilingual education and became certified teachers, after nearly eight years of juggling school, family and work.

Darwin School hosted the three for their student teaching.

Project Nueva Generacion is a collaboration between LSNA, Chicago State and CPS designed to give committed parents and community leaders the opportunity to teach.

With the leadership of Senator Iris Martinez, Nueva Generacion paved the way for a statewide initiative, Grow Your Own Teachers Illinois.  Around the state, 587 teacher candidates have entered college through Grow Your Own, including 51 in Logan Square.
