New Communities Program

In Logan Square LSNA is the Lead Agency for the New Communities Program, a long-term initiative of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation/Chicago. NCP’s purpose is to support comprehensive community development in 16 Chicago neighborhoods by rejuvenating challenged communities, bolstering those in danger of sliding downward and preserving the diversity of those areas in the path of gentrification.

Logan Square New Communities Program Receives Five Year Renewal

What do Haas Park, the Paseo Prairie Garden and mural, the Lorington Apartments and St. Sylvester School have in common?

They all received funding through Logan Square’s New Communities Program, a community development partnership that has just been renewed for five more years, with LSNA continuing as the lead agency.

Since the New Communities Program (NCP) began in 2002, Logan Square has been one of 16 communities in the program, which provides funding and other support to “rejuvenate beleaguered neighborhoods, bolster those in danger of losing ground and preserve the diversity of others in the path of gentrification.” LSNA was chosen as lead agency based on its longterm positive impact on the community.

The NCP is coordinated by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a community development organization, and is funded by the MacArthur Foundation.

In the past five years, MacArthur has provided $21 million that generated more than $255 million in new investment in the participating communities.
