Universal Breakfast in the Classroom
CPS Food Director, Louise Esaian invited McAuliffe to be the first school in CPS to serve Universal Breakfast in the Classroom. The school administration and parents immediately agreed and the first day was October 24, 2007. Prior to universal breakfast, an average of 200 students arrived for breakfast before school. Now that breakfast is served during school hours and in the classroom, 700 students are participating in breakfast. Universal breakfast means that all children regardless of income are served. Because of LSNA's Healthy Eating by Design partnership, McAuliffe was ready.
