Family Night
In June 2007, McAuliffe Elementary integrated health into their annual Family Night. Staff and parents joined with community partners to hold a family event at the school that highlighted both math and health. Parents and students got a chance to “taste the rainbow” while practicing their math skills.
In May 2008, the Wellness Council teamed up with the Literacy Team and hosted their annual Family night. The school bustled as 200 families showed up and took part in the activities and games. The excitement culminated with a raffle giveaway in which several bikes were raffled off as well as other sports equipment and produce baskets.
Overall, Family Nights at McAuliffe have provided a fun way for parents and students to interact with health topics as an integrated part of the school community.
