* 2008 Wellness Pioneer Award- presented by Healthy Schools Campaign
McAuliffe School was chosen as one of four schools recognized for accomplishments related to food and physical fitness. Achievements included:
o Establishment of an active School Wellness Council
o Completion of the School Health Index
o Conducted aggregate BMI (Body Mass Index) measurements
o Salad bar installed in the cafeteria
o Offered wellness programs including:
- In-class nutrition education (OrganWise Guys; Fresh From the Farm)
-Take 10! (10 minutes of physical activity combined with classroom curriculum0
-CATCH program for coordinated health
-Healthy cooking and snack demonstrations for the family
-Bike racks and bike lock library
-Parent Patrol and Walking School Bus
-Pedestrian and Bike education
-10 minute recess for grades K-2
-Universal Breakfast in the classroom
